West Pokot County officials arrested over Ksh 296M graft case

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives have arrested two former senior officials from West Pokot County Government for embezzling Ksh 296 million.

The two are accused of embezzling funds meant to help the needy and low income people from the county.

According to EACC, the alleged corruption occurred between the financial years 2017/2018 and 2021/2022 when they were in charge of the kitty.

Ten two who were processed at the EACC North Rift Regional Offices in Eldoret will be arraigned before the Eldoret Anti-Corruption Court on Tuesday 24th September 2024.

EACC had initially received a tip off that the two officials had embezzled the Bursary, Education, and Infrastructure Fund of West Pokot County government.

Initial investigations revealed that they had siphoned Ksh 212 million but upon further investigations, the agency discovered the loss stood at Ksh 296 million.

Other officials from the county government were brought into the case for fabricating minutes of a certain meeting that never happened.

Upon conclusion of the investigation, EACC forwarded its report to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) who recommended the prosecution of the four suspects.
