At least people have been killed and several others injured after a 6.3 earthquake struck northern Afghanistan, as confirmed by the country’s disaster management authority.
The early morning earthquake occurred near the city of Mazar-i-Sharif, one of the most populated cities in northern Afghanistan.
In recent years, Afghanistan has experienced several earthquakes, all of which have resulted in deaths.

Efforts to reach the affected areas through international aid have been impaired by the recent takeover by the Talibans and after the withdrawal of US-led forces back in 2021.
“So far, five people have been reported dead and 143 injured in Samangan, most of whom were discharged and sent home after receiving medical treatment,” said the Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority
Blue Mosque in Mazar-i-Sharif, one of Afghanistan’s architectural treasures, was also not spared, as debris from it could be seen scattered.
