Activist Mwabili Mwagodi Kidnapped In Dar es Salaam

Activist Mwabili Mwagodi has been kidnapped by unknown people in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania as confirmed by the family.

According to Mwabili’s elder sister, the activist popularly known on X as TL Elder was kidnapped on Wednesday at Amani Beach Hotel in Kigamboni where he works.

Back in 2024, the family of the activist confirmed to have received visitors from DCI who urged them to advise him over his activism.

VOCAL Africa Rapid Response Officer Odhiambo Ojiro confirmed that Mwabili had previously raised an alarm over suspicious visitors who came to his work place insisting on seeing him.

“Our fellow activist had said that the Kenyan security agencies were after him. His mother has also told us of a time, last year, when DCI officers visited her home and told her to warn her son against activism.

The family has also informed us of unidentified people, believed to be the police, who have been visiting Mwabili’s workplace in Tanzania posing as clients and insisting to see him to say thank you for discounts.” he said

The last time he was seen, Mwagodi was in the company of a driver heading to the hotel before a vehicle intercepted them before taking him and speeding off.

Teh family has since accused the Tanzania and Kenyan government of colluding to kidnapp him.

“It is evident that the Kenyan government, through the security agencies, were involved in abducting our brother. They colluded with the Tanzanian authorities,” said Ojiro

“He should be taken to the police, or arraigned in court for the law to take its course. Enforced disappearances are not the way for Kenya and Tanzania where he was taken. Mama Samia, do you see what is happening? Why do leaders allow this to happen?”  said Mwabili’s sister and jornalist Isabella Kituri.
