Premier League giants Chelsea have parted ways with coach Enzo Maresca, effective immediately, as announced on Thursday.
Through a statement, Chelsea thanked him for the contributions he has made to the club, including the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup.
“During his time at the Club, Enzo led the team to success in the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup. Those achievements will remain an important part of the Club’s recent history, and we thank him for his contributions to the Club.
With key objectives still to play for across four competitions, including qualification for Champions League football, Enzo and the Club believe a change gives the team the best chance of getting the season back on track,” read the statement from Chelsea.
The news follows a growing tension that he has been brewing at the club between them and the coach for the last 24-48 hours.
Maresca has been shortlisted for the Manchester City job if Pep Guardiola departs in 2027, as revealed recently.
“Enzo Maresca remains on Man City shortlist for the future, highly rated, but nothing agreed at this stage. Guardiola has not made any decision, 100% focused on this season + Maresca respects Pep,” said Fabrizio Romano.
It is yet to be seen who will succeed Enzo Maresca and take Chelsea to the next level, following recent struggles and losse,s leaving them in fifth position with 30 points from 19 matches played.
