Chelsea captain and England international Reece James has sustained a hamstring injury and will remain sidelined for several weeks.
“Reece James has suffered an hamstring injury, reports. Chelsea captain expected to be out for several weeks and also miss England call for upcoming games,” said Fabrizio Romano.
Speaking after the news was Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior who said that the defender felt something in his hamstring but they do not know the exact extent of the injury.
He continued by saying that James will first undergo medical tests but will remain sidelined for weeks.
“Reece James felt something in his hamstring. We don’t know the full extent of the injury”. said Liam
“It could be weeks. It’s never great with a hamstring injury. Let’s wait for the scans now”. he continued
The news came hours after Chelsea was fined £10.7 million for breaching Premier League rules related to financial reporting third-party investment and youth development.
The breach which occurred during Roman Abramovich era, were first reported by the club’s new owners leading to an immediate 9-month academy transfer ban and one year first-team transfer ban.
“Chelsea have been handed a £10.7m fine for breaching Premier League rules related to financial reporting, third-party investment and youth development during the Roman Abramovich era.
The club have also received an immediate 9-month academy transfer ban, plus a 1-year first-team transfer ban (suspended for two years),” said Fabrizio Romano
