Education Cabinet Secretary Julias Migos Ogambahas denied plans by the government to scrap free education in the country.
Speaking on Saturday, the CS noted that the government has reduced the capitation and not scrapped the programme as speculated recently.
He continued by saying that the reduction in capitation was due to financial constraints in the 2025/2026 fiscal year.

“Under the government policy, the amount that we are supposed to give per student in senior school is Ksh22,244, but because of budget constraints, we have not been able to meet that target,” he said
“The number of students has been going up every year, but the figure has not been moving up. We have not abolished free primary education. We have only reduced the capitation fee,” said the CS
According to the CS, free education is enshrined in the constitution, and the government has no plans to scrap it.
Ogamba revealed plans to lobby Parliament to allocate more resources to make the programme a success.
