DCI dismisses allegations of spying mobile phones

The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has dismissed allegations that they spying mobile phones and other digital devices.

Through a statement, they noted that a publication by Nation Media on the allegation was misleading and that the matter is now in court.

“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) wishes to address the misleading claims published in today’s Daily Nation regarding alleged surveillance of mobile phones and other digital devices by the DCI.

We categorically refute these claims as false and sensational, aimed at misguiding the public and undermining the integrity of the DCI. However, we cannot disclose specific details about the allegations at this time, since they are now a matter of ongoing court proceedings.

We want to assure the members of the public that the DCI operates strictly within the confines of the law. Our commitment to upholding the rights and privacy of all Kenyans is unwavering, and we do not engage in any activities that compromise these constitutional principles,” read the statement

The allegations are part of an ongoing frustration expressed by Kenyans in regard to telecommunication companies.

Kenyans have accused the companies of sharing their data leading to the arrest of influential people especially at the height of Gen z led demonstrations.
