Former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya released

Former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has been released following his arrest by DCI detectives on his way to Bungoma from Kisumu.

The former Governor had been arrested and grilled for two hours in what he said the detectives said was his connection to anti-government protests in Busia on Wednesday.

He continued by revealing how his car was stopped by armed individuals who introduced themselves as DCI officers who requested to have him interrogated.

“A friend of mine from Bungoma had invited me for dinner. When I was heading there my vehicle was waylaid by three cars whose occupants were armed.

All of them pointed their guns towards me. They then pulled my driver from the vehicle which they then commandeered. One of them said he was a CID officer and that I was required for questioning.” said Oparanya

Oparanya was further accused of using a government vehicle to conduct the illegal activity but declined to record a statement. Confirming the incident was his lawyer Echesa.

“My client was arrested like he was a terrorist. The regional DCI boss has failed to explain why my client was arrested. They have even impounded Oparanya’s vehicle; we are giving them 24 hours to return the vehicle because he is entitled to it,” said Echesa
