A push by Kenya Power to increase electricity cost through a proposed tariff review application has been declined by Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi.
Kenya Power had lodged the application to he Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) on March 31st and if it could have sailed through, electricity prices could have hiked on 1st July 2026.

Speaking on the issue, CS Wandayi noted that the application has been withdrawn so as to protect Kenyans from the rising cost of electricty amid claims that the cost has already gone up in the recent months.
“Following the withdrawal of the application, the current retail electricity tariffs shall remain in force and unchanged, unless otherwise lawfully reviewed in accordance with the Energy Act and applicable regulatory procedures,” he said
According to the CS, the declined application will not affect supply of electricity and that its distribution will continue uninterrupted under the existing tariff structure.
