Matatu strike to continue on Tuesday, say Association of Matatu Transport Owners

The Association of Matatu Transport Owners has confirmed that the ongoing strike over fuel prices will continue on Tuesday.

Speaking was the association’s chairman Kushian Muchiri who said that no deal has been agreed with the government and a second meeting has been scheduled.

He continued by saying that they have only agreed on the prices of diesel and kerosine that they should be the same.

“We have agreed on the part of adulteration that the price of diesel and kerosene be at par. On the issue of the diesel prices, that one we have not agreed and we have scheduled another meeting.

In the meantime, it is our request that all our drivers and owners of vehicles continue keeping their vehicles at home. No disruption, no rioting as we await better engagements which will save the economy,” said Muchiri

Also speaking after the meeting was Transport and Energy CS’s Davis Chirchir and Opiyo Wandayi who agreed that the parties involved had not reached an agreement but revised prices will be announced later on Monday.

The news follows a day of interuppted business after both private and public means of transport were requested to stay away until when the issue is resolved.
