Kenyans online have reacted to a statement issued on Tuesday by Justice Katwa Kigen on same-sex marriage in the country.
Kigen was speaking during interviews for the Supreme of Kenya position where he said that same-sex marriages are prohibited by the constitution but it acknowledges same-sex families.

“The constitution inherently acknowledges that you can have a same-sex family,” he said
The statement has caused mixed reactions with many saying that the subject is a non issue in the country right now given the recent series of events.
“Bruh of all the things that are going on, you choose this?” said Muchiri
Others have questioned the timing of the topic given previous allegations that the West was imposing the ‘agenda’ on Kenya so as to advance their interest.
“He has a point. the constitution strictly prohibits same-sex marriage. Article 45(2) remains the primary barrier to same-sex marriage. It does not explicitly outlaw the existence of same-sex families or relationships,” said one Wonderdust on X
Kigen who is in the race for the Supreme Court seat, has been tipped to win it given his close relations with President William Ruto.
