Liverpool beat Chelsea to lift the Carabao Cup

Virgil van Dijk’s header in the 118th minute gave Liverpool a deserved win against Chelsea to lift the Carabao Cup.

Chelsea came into the clash hoping to turn around the fortunes for Mauricio Pochettino as Liverpool planned a perfect send off package for Jurgen Klopp who is leaving Anfield at the end of the season.

As Liverpool quickly launched an attack, Đorđe Petrović caught a looping Luiz Diaz header as Caoimhín Kelleher on the other end blocked a Cole Palmer’s effort 20 minutes into the clash.

Ryan Gravenberch left the pitch in the 28th minute following a Moises Caicedo’s challenge much to the anger of Jurgen Klopp. Chelsea were disappointed when a Raheem Stirling failed to finish a counter attack.

Conor Gallagher had three opportunities to seal the deal but the first one hit the post, second one was quickly blocked by  Kelleher and the third one went off target.

Virgil van Dijk’s header won it for Liverpool after his first chance was ruled for offside giving the Reds their tenth Carabao cup and condemn Chelsea to their sixth consecutive cup final defeat at Wembley, three of which were against Jurgen Klopp.
