Nelson Amenya, the whistle blower in the JKIA-Adani deal now claims the government quietly shifted from using De La Rue to print the country’s bank notes to using a German firm.
He continued by saying that the government risks paying billions for breaching a non-compete Clause as was the case with the famous Aror-Kimwarer dam scandal.
- Four Al-Shabaab terrorists neutralized in Garissa County
- Five gang members arrested in Nakuru and an AK-47 recovered
“Government of Kenya has quietly changed the design of our currency and is now printing it in Germany without any public disclosure or participation.
But that’s not even the worst part. In doing so, they breached a non-compete clause in the existing contract with De La Rue, a move that could cost taxpayers billions just like the Arror and Kimwarer dam scandal. Reports indicate it was a contract awarded to Raila Odinga for his handshake with Ruto.”” he said
According to Amenya, the government should explain what happened to there 40% shareholding of De La Rue if it dissolved business with them.
“Pertinent questions that central bank governor Kamau Thugge should provide answers to:
Government owns 40% of De La Rue, what happened to the shares when it closed was there liquidation? Did De La Rue really close their operations in Nairobi considering it’s the only such facility in Africa and prints currency for other country’s central banks including Tanzania?” he said
