Nandi Senator Kiprotich Arap Cherargei has come out to defend Kenya’s 12 trillion debt under President William Ruto.
Through a statement, the Senator pointed out how the former President Uhuru Kenyatta drove the debt from Ksh 2.5 trillion to Ksh 10 trillion, posing to ask as to why it was not a debt crisis.
“This is sensational headline nothing else & ironical because when Uhuru borrowed from 2.5T to over 10T it was not debt crisis but it has now become debt crisis?” he said

He continued by saying that the country will continue to borrow to finance development and that the debt ceiling had been approved by parliament.
“These hypocrites of holier should stop because Kenya will keep borrowing to finance its development agenda unless Kenyans are taxed to death. The debt borrowing is justified and the debt ceiling has been approved by Parliament, cognizant of the fact of prevailing economic situation,” he said
According to Senator Cherargei, the government raises funds through taxes, debt, or donations, and that these are the consequences of rejecting the Finance Bill.
“Government gets its funding either through taxes, debt, or donations, as you know, there are consequences of rejection of Finance Bills which have assisted in raising revenue to finance Government operations, including development,” said the Senator
