Lecturers of public universities have ended their two-month long strike after agreeing payment offer from the government.
The lecturers confirmed they have called off the strike after the government agreed to pay Ksh 7.9 billion, money they owe the government under the 2017-2021 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
Confirming the news was UASU Secretary General Constantine Wasonga, who said that the money will be paid in two installments ending June 2026.

“We have agreed to be paid in two instalments – one between November and December for 3.8 billion shillings, and the second in June next year. We are happy that we have secured the whole amount,” he said
The news follows a statement by Treasury CS John Mbadi, who said that the government is currently unable to pay the whole Ksh 7.9 billion, but they should consider the installment offer.
Initially, UASU had instructed their members not to return to work until the amount is paid as a lumpsum.
