X set to cease operations in Brazil over censorship orders

Social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter is set to cease its operations in Brazil over censorship orders brought against them.

The decision follows an ongoing legal battle against Brazilian Supreme Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes who said that the platform is a dnager of spreading misinformation online.

X’s Global Government Affairs department confirmed that Judge Moraes threatened their legal representatives in Brazil if they do not comply with the censorship orders issued.

The office continued by saying that shutting down its operations was the best decision to protect its staff and the responsibility solely lies with Supreme Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes.

Taking in the platform, X owner Elon Musk also confirmed the same saying that the demands has led to their actions which they have undertaken without any shame.

“The decision to close the 𝕏 office in Brazil was difficult, but, if we had agreed to alexandre’s (illegal) secret censorship and private information handover demands, there was no way we could explain our actions without being ashamed.” said Elon
