Chelsea held by 10-man Burnley at Stamford Bridge

Woes at Chelsea continued on Saturday as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Burnley at Stamford despite taking the lead twice on both halves.

Arijanet Muric made a strong start for the visitors maintaining a clean sheet in the early stages of the clash as he tipped off Enzo Fernandez’s effort. Wilson Odobert nearly gave the Clarets the lead but his effort was kept off by Đorđe Petrović.

Axel Disasi finished off Mykhailo Mudryk’s assist in the 20th minute but after a VAR check, it was disallowed as a handball as it came off his arm. Mudryk was at it again and was brought down in the penalty area which was converted by Cole Palmer.

Vincent Kompany was sent off shortly before the pendalty was taken after receiving his second yellow card of the clash.

Josh Brownhill who came in the second half as a substitute linked up with Josh Cullen who thumped home a volley which was his first ever Premier League goal. Petrović made another later on to stop a  Lyle Foster’s header.

Chelsea forced Burnley to stay behind and defend but they slowly found out that it was nearly impossible to beat Muric. Sterling found Palmer who slotted home the second goal of the clash.

Kompany’s boys reponded immediately when Cullen’s corner was converted by Dara O’Shea. Jay Rodriguez almost won it for Burnley but his effort hit the crossbar and the rebound went over.

At the end, both sides shared a point leaving Chelsea in 11th position with 40 points. Burnley occupy the second bottom position in the table with 18 points from 30 matches played.
