Former GSU officer Joseph Kariuki Ruoro linked to over nine robbery with violence cases was yesterday arrested in Gilgil.
Ruoro has been a familiar name in many police station especially after the Equity Bank Matuu branch heist where two AK47 rifles were also stolen from officers manning the bank.
“Ex police officer Joseph Kariuki Ruoro who previously served in the General Service Unit is in our custody after he was arrested yesterday in Gilgil over 9 incidents of Robbery with Violence linked to him.
The blackguard who could not live up to the oath of office for police officers tucked away after several of his accomplices were either arrested or fell by the gun in various robbery encounters with police.
Ruoro’s name became particularly apparent in the Equity Bank Matuu robbery incident in July 2021, when his gang of five robbed the bank & disappeared with two AK47 rifles disarmed from officers manning it,” said DCI
Operations into the incident led to the discovery of one firearm and the other one yesterday in Takaungu, Kilifi County.
Other robberies that the former GSU officer has been linked to include those in Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi and Machakos counties.
“A series of stealth operations had been conducted to neutralize the gang and its affiliated groups, in the course of which one of the rifles was recovered and several arrests made.
In DCI’s endeavour to sanitize the streets of gangsters and scrupulously hunt for guns in the wrong hands, the 2nd AK47 rifle was recovered at Takaungu area in Kilifi County yesterday, in an operation that extended to Gilgil where Ruoro was cornered and arrested.
Preliminary investigations have so far linked him to 9 robbery incidents reported in Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi and Machakos counties.
The suspect is being processed for arraignment with detectives advancing their investigations to nab more accomplices,” said DCI
