Gov’t extends waiver period on ID replacement for six months

The government through a special gazette notice has extended the waiver peirod for ID replacement and changing of particulars for a further six months.

The waiver which was already ongoing has been termed by Interior CS Kipchumba as crucial for Kenyans to access government services.

“We have today issued a Special Gazette Notice extending the waiver period for fees charged on the replacement of IDs and change of particulars for a further six months.

We are committed to ensuring that all citizens can acquire vital identification documents in order to access government services and other opportunities.

This move complements other measures spearheaded by H.E. President William Ruto including the scrapping of charges for first-time ID applicants and the authentication fee for birth certificates, as well as the removal of extra vetting for border communities,” said Murkomen.

The initial waiver period was introduced by the governemt following public outry after they had introduced a Ksh 1000 fee when replacing the ID.

President William Ruto has been accused by Kenyans for introducing fee or hiking them, then later scrapping them off or reducing them so as to act as a hero.
