Gov’t hikes ID replacement fee from Ksh 100 to Ksh 1000

Kenyans will once again dig deeper into their pockets when replacing their ID’s as the fee has been increased from Ksh 100 to Ksh 1000.

Through a gazette notice, Interior CS Kithure Kindiki noted that Kenyans will now be required to pay Ksh 1,000 to get a new ID unlike in the past past where it has been free.

The price for a 34-page passport will now cost Ksh 7,000 from Ksh 4,500 and that of a 50-page passport will now cost Ksh 9,500 from Ksh 6,000. The price of a 66-page passport will also cost Ksh 12,500 from Ksh 5,000.

To replace a lost passport, one will part with Ksh 20,000 from Ksh 8,000 and the cost of replacing a valid but mutilated passport will now be Ksh 20,000 up from Ksh 10,000.

Kenyans will however not be required anything to acquire a temporary passport which was issued at Ksh 30,000. An express passport will however cost Ksh 30,000.

Those seeking to acquire emergency travel documents will not pay any additional fees but the current Ksh 3,000.

The application fee for a birth and death certificate has increased from Ksh 50 to Ksh 200 while the application fee to amend a death certificate and birth certificate will now be Ksh 1,000 from Ksh 870.
