Gov’t issues Elon Musk’s X three months’ notice or face suspension

The government is reported to have issued X, the social media company owned by billionaire Elon Musk, three months’ notice or face suspension.

The directive by the government follows the requirement that they should open up their office in Nairobi to conduct their operations.

“Kenya has given Elon Musk’s X platform (formerly Twitter) a 3-month deadline to open a Nairobi office. The government says it could suspend X if the directive is not met,” said Moe

The news follows backlash that the government is receiving on the popular social media platform, which has rapidly gained a huge following, given its freedom of speech.

Government critics initially held spaces and plans on how to hold the government liable, causing challenges in controlling the conversation online.

President William Ruto recently called on Kenyans in diaspora not to rely on information shared on social media, accusing users of spreading false and unverified information.
