A Homa Bay County official has been charged with assaulting a People Daily reporter and causing bodily harm.
According to DPP, Beatrice Mercy Akugo committed the offense at Lake Front in Homa Bay Sub-County.

Homa Bay County Human Resource Manager, Beatrice Mercy Akugo was on 16th September 2025 charged at the Homa Bay Law Court with assaulting People Daily reporter Habil Onyang’o Oloo in Homa Bay.
The court heard that the accused committed the offence on September 14, 2025 at Lake Front in Homa Bay Sub-County.
She pleaded not guilty to the charges before Chief Magistrate Jacinta Orwa and was released on a KSh 30,000 bond with a surety of the same amount or an alternative cash bail of KSh 20,000.
The case will be mentioned on September 30, 2025.” said DPP
