Jane Atela: body belived to be of missing UoN student found at City Mortuary

Body believed to be that of missing University of Nairobi student Jane Atela has been found at the City Mortuary, Nairobi.

Speaking on Sunday was Patrick Mwangela, the guardian of the 20-year-old, who says that the body could have been booked at the facility on 17th October.

“The body must have been recovered by the police on the seventeenth, and that area was the same proximity within which the crime was committed,” he said

He continued by saying that the body in question had decomposed beyond recognition and that it would require a DNA test to identify it.

“The view of the body is such that very little flesh remains in the part of the body. Part of the left leg is badly done, and the skull is separate from the body. The skull also bears evidence of violence,” he said

“The only thing we are asking the government is to initiate a DNA, maybe that is the only one that would put us into the light, as if this is the body we are following up or dismiss it and continue following the body of an individual that is still missing,” he continued

The second-year Bachelor of Education student went missing on 3rd October after leaving with friends from the campus and was on her way to meet her boyfriend.

Her phone went off, and even after reporting the matter at Kikuyu Police Station failed to yield any results. The family, however, received phone calls from people claiming that she was in Kilgoris, and others demanding money to secure her release.

Neighbors revealed that Jane was last seen with her boyfriend and that the two had a serious argument.

The boyfriend is in police custody and is being treated as a person of interest even though investigations are ongoing.
