Kenya Forest Service clarifies on disposal of forest materials

Kenya Forest Service (KFS) has clarified the disposal of forest materials following concerns raised online, as confirmed by the agency.

According to KFS, the disposal of forest materials is undertaken through an open process and is limited to registered sawmillers.

They continued by saying that there is a guideline on how concerns are raised to ensure action is taken.

“Kenya Forest Service has noted concerns raised online regarding the disposal of forest materials, particularly from forest plantations.

The Service wishes to clarify that disposal of all forest materials is undertaken through an open tendering process, limited to registered sawmillers. This process is conducted in strict compliance with the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act and its accompanying regulations.

The Act further provides for established grievance redress mechanisms. Any party aggrieved by the process is advised to follow the laid-down procedures to lodge complaints.” said KFS
