Kenya Railways suspends Syokimau and Lukenya train services

Kenya Railways has on Thursday confirmed the suspension of services along the Syokimau and Lukenya routes.

Through a statement, Kenya Railways confirmed that the reason behind the suspension was due to the constant attacks on the trains passing through Mukuru kwa Njenga by rowdy individuals who also barricade the train tracks and stone them.

“We wish to inform our customers and the general public that we have suspended train services along the Syokimau and Lukenya routes.

This is due to the volatile security situation arising from constant attacks on our trains passing through Mukuru kwa Njenga by rowdy individuals who are barricading rail tracks and stoning the train,” read the statement.

In a recent incident, a Lukenya bound train was on Wednesday attacked at 6:00 pm and on Thursday morning a train carrying 520 students was attacked at 11:00 am.

According to Kenya Railways, the safety of their passengers remain paramount and that services will resume as soon as possible.
