Malia Obama, the daughter of former U.S President Barack Obama has opted to drop her surname following her professional debut in film.
Through a short film that she has written and directed called ‘The Heart’, Malia goes by the name Malia Ann with Ann being her middle name.

Speaking about the news was her mother and First Lady Michelle Obama who has publicly supported her decision to drop the family name Obama.
She continued by saying that Malia’s action reveals her intention of forging her own path without the reliance of the Obama surname.
