Former Migori Governor Okoth Obado, his four children and 12 others have been acquited in the Ksh 73.5 million graft case by a Nairobi anti-corruption court.
The move follows termination of the case by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) after the recovered assets worth Ksh 235.6 million including two high end vehicles, an amount that is more than three times that the former Governor was being accused of.

Speaking on the case was the trial Margistrate who confirmed that negotiations in criminal cases are recognized by the court and that the recovered assets were indeed three times the amount the accused were standing trial for.
The Margistrate continues by revealing that the court will adopt the plea burgain agreement as the basis of the judgement as all charges withdrawn against the 18 accused persons.
The court also noted that public interest has been met according with the recovery of the assets as failure to do so would have amounted to waste of public resource.
Among the items that the government has recovered include apartments, commercial buildings, maisonetts, parcels of land and two Toyato Land Cruisers.
According to the former Governor, his children had been struggling for years trying to clear their names, in a case that he says they should not have been included in the first place.
It will be remembered that the children were dragged into that case after bank accounts under their names received substantial amounts, amounts believed to have been proceeds of corruption.
