Police have on Sunday intercepted contraband alcohol drinks and bhang along the Busia-Kisumu road following a routine operation.
The illegal consignement was recovered onboard a Nairobi bound public service minibus before hawk-eyes police pounced on them.
The driver of the minibus was arrested and is currently in police custody as another suspect managed to escape the scene.

“National Police Service officers in Busia, on 3rd May 2026, successfully intercepted contraband alcoholic drinks and suspected narcotic drugs during a routine security operation along the Busia–Kisumu Road.
In a well-coordinated multi-agency operation, officers manning the Suo roadblock stopped a Nairobi-bound public service minibus for inspection.
Upon conducting a thorough search, the team recovered twenty-four packages of uncustomed Simba Gin, each containing twenty-four 200ml bottles, alongside five bales of substances suspected to be Cannabis sativa.
The driver was arrested at the scene and placed in police custody pending processing and arraignment in court. The motor vehicle was also detained, whilst investigations are ongoing to trace and apprehend another suspect who escaped during the operation.
