Speaker Moses Wetangula hints at a possible 2032 presidential bid

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has hinted at a possible 2032 presidential bid following his meeting over the weekend.

Speaking to a delegation from Webuye West constituency, the Speaker noted that his days as an MP, Senator, Cabinet Minister and now Speaker have gained him enough experience to go for the top seat.

He was speaking as he received complains from sugarcane farmers over losses caused by millers due to their inconsistency during harvesting.

“During an interactive engagement with a delegation from Webuye East Constituency, I listened keenly to the concerns raised by sugarcane farmers. While they welcomed the revival of operations in factories that had remained dormant for years, they expressed deep concern over irregular and inconsistent harvesting by millers and investors, which continues to occasion heavy losses and negatively impact their yields.

I assured the over 1,000 attendees that the reforms we have consistently championed in the sugar sector will be fully implemented to address these challenges, prevent cane losses, and curb incidents of cane rotting caused by delayed harvesting.

I also informed the gathering that construction works on previously stalled road projects have resumed. Contractors who had failed to deliver within the agreed timelines have had their contracts terminated, and competent replacements have since been engaged to ensure timely completion of these critical infrastructure projects,” he said

At the same event, Wetangula called out former President Uhuru Kenyatta accusing him of supporting individuals who are working to frustrate President William Ruto.

“As we continue working together for the progress of our nation, I urged the people to support the re-election of President William Ruto so that he can continue delivering on his development agenda for the people of Kenya.

At the same time, I respectfully called upon retired President Uhuru Kenyatta to embrace his retirement honorably by offering guidance and counsel to the nation’s leadership, rather than engaging in divisive local politics.

I further urged him not to support individuals working to frustrate the President’s development efforts, but instead allow the government to focus on delivering meaningful transformation to the people of Kenya,” he said
