Tenants at Park View apartment in Westlands, Nairobi, were forced to vacate their premises after the building developed cracks.
The Wednesday incident was caused by an ongoing excavation exercise at an adjacent plot that is reported to have weakened the apartment’s foundation, thus the cracks.

More than 30 tenants were forced to vacate the building out of fear and were also escorted out by the emergency response team that was on site.
Addressing the media, the owner of the apartment accused the owner of the adjacent plot of failing to follow the laid procedures and that she had earlier raised an alarm over the exercise.
She continued by saying that her plea was ignored despite continuous vibrations that eventually led to the collapse of the perimeter wall and balcony a few days ago.
“”This property has been standing here for more than ten years, but of late, there is a new developer who bought the property and began construction. What has happened is that they have deeply excavated, which has led to structural failure in this building.” she said
