UDA taken to court over Ksh 69M tax evasion claims

The Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) has confirmed that it will take legal action against the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) over alleged KSh 69 million tax evasion.

Speaking on Sunday, the commission recounted the statement by the Auditor General, who revealed that the party had paid out Ksh 128 million as salaries but failed to remit PAYE deductions for the years 2023-2024 and 2024-2025.

“The Kenya Human Rights Commission is taking legal action against the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and its officials for mismanaging public funds, breaking statutory and constitutional provisions, and failing to meet their tax obligations,” they said

KHCR continued by saying that the ruling party had breached the constitution, even though they are the biggest beneficiary of the political party’s funds, receiving over 789 million.

“UDA has received the most money from the Political Parties Fund. In the 2025/2026 financial year alone, it got over Sh789 million. It is our money being mismanaged and stolen,” said KHCR

The commission also accused UDA of failing to remit Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) deductions, National Social Security Fund (NSSF), and the housing levy for its members.

They noted with concern that even though they are the founders and advocates for the housing levy, they have not supported the scheme from within.

“It is ironic that while UDA strongly supports the housing project, it did not pay the housing levy for its employees,” they said

KHCR has noted with concern that failure by UDA to make the payments sterves the country of socio-economic benefits such as education and health.
