Mashujaa Day Chief Guest fails to attend event

Questions have been raised after President João Lourenço failed to attend this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations despite being the Chief Guest.

In his place at the Kericho Green Stadium was Angolan Foreign Minister Tete António who noted that the Head of State will not be able to attend due to unforeseeable reasons.

“On behalf of the President, I would first like to convey his apologies. He would have loved to be here but for unforeseen reasons, he could not make it to Kericho but he sent you a warm greeting,” said the Foreign Minister

Despite the explanation, it was still not clear why the President could not attend when had arrived in the country following President William Ruto’s invitation.

“Today, I had the honor and privilege of receiving His Excellency João Lourenço, the President of the Republic of Angola, and Her Excellency Ana Dias Lourenço, the First Lady of the Republic of Angola, as they arrived in our country for a two-day state visit.

During the visit, H.E. Lourenço will engage in a bilateral meeting with H.E President William Ruto and will also be the Chief Guest at the Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kericho County.” said Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi
