The incident is the second in 10 days, following the same pirates’ hijacking of Honor 25 on 22nd April. At the time of the incident, the ship was ferrying 18,500 barrels of crude oil to Mogadishu.
After the incident on MT Eureka, the ship that had the flag of Togo has since been established to be due to dock in Somalia soon.
The recent incident has signaled a clear expansion of the Somali pirates in the high seas, where both the Somali authorities and the European Union Naval Force (EUNAVFOR) are expected to address the issue.
